I was so nervous the weeks and days leading to this long run. I thought I'd break down and have to walk, or that I would freeze up and not be able to move, and the list of crazy thoughts keeps going... I didn't work out the 2 days before this run. I think it was panic setting in. I ate horribly the days leading up to this run. Horribly...like homemade cookies everyday since Tuesday. I woke up and left the house about 6:30am. I tried to keep my pace slower and even. I needed to make sure I could finish this run. Around mile 9, I had some knee trouble that had me stop for less than a minute. I stretched out my knee and kept going. Ahhh... much better! I did that one more time around mile 11. Then on the last 5 miles home, I'd make small goals to get me back. I broke up those last 5 miles into 3-4 segments. It worked out perfect. Every time I completed one segment, I felt relief as if I had crossed the finish line and was re energized with more energy as if I had just started a race. Best of both worlds!!
I actually had a great time running!! It was a very positive experience. The weather was perfect, the energy great. I didn't have to go to the bathroom, I didn't need anything but my water. No sports beans, gels, or sports drinks. I can't believe it! I survived! Woohoo!!!
My goal was to complete the run in 2:30 and I made it in 2:32! I am very proud of myself. My legs were sore, but it was worth it.
My next big run is scheduled in two weeks: 20 miles. I KNOW I can do it!
